ALLOWED COLOURS

History:

During the second half of the nineteenth century, from crosses between smaller medium-sized schnauzers, it was created in 1890 the current miniature Schnauzer. The last varieties of Miniature Schnauzer to appear were white, and black and silver at the end of the 60s. It is said that from genetic mutations of salt and pepper emerged white, although it seems that some specimens were born from the intersection between black.

The Schnauzer originated at the end of the decade of 1880 in German farms to fight rodents, as a company of mares and horses, as well as to be an alert and intelligent company for the families. The coat of the beards and legs has a function from its origins as it works as camouflage to mislead rodents that bite the coat assuming it is the skin of the animal. So it is believed that its beards were a type of shield at the time of hunting mice, as it protected them from scratches and bites by rodents. The cropped ears and docked tails equally shared this same purpose, since rats could easily bite the schnauzer in these parts.

Characteristics::

The miniature Schnauzer is of strong, compact and muscular constitution. It has a straight build (its width and length measure almost the same). It has an elongated and robust head, and the beard remarks the quadrangular shape. You may have high implanted ears or you can wear them natural, V-shaped. The tail is also usually docked and the length left is about three vertebrae (although in the vast majority of European countries docking has been banned, as it is considered a mutilation, because dogs use the movement of these parts to express moods and other complicated interactions within the herd).

It has a rough, tight and hard coat and has to be of a single color, or black, or salt and pepper, or black and silver or white.

Its height is 30.5 to 38 centimeters and the racial standard, the weight is not specified. Usually 4.5 to 7 kilograms and overweight should be monitored, as they tend to diabetes.

Temperament:

The Miniature schnauzer is intelligent, self-confident, and civilized. They enjoy the company of people, even though they may be very mistrustful with strangers. It likes to be treated with intelligence and kindness.

They are excellent watchdogs and guardians. They have a friendly temperament, and must be trained and socialized since puppies to accept strangers and other dogs in front of their owners. Many times they understand what they are asked for, but they require constancy and consistency in their training. They learn orders quickly and effectively.

Maintenance:

Their fur should be groomed every month, since they do not shed it. There is the method of stripping that is used when the dog participates in canine exhibitions or when you want the dog to maintain the consistency and hard texture of the typical coat of the breed.

The Miniature Schnauzer likes to eat, so you have to control it and not overfeed it. As it is a very active dog, it needs to exercise daily to keep the body and mind balanced. It is recommended to educate it since puppy so that it is not aggressive with other dogs.

Health:

The Miniature Schnauzer is a strong and healthy dog. Despite this fact, there are known problems in this breed in the urinary system and kidney stones.
